Ancient Lightning Spear Elden Ring Location And Requirements
The Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear is one of the most devastating red lightning incantations available to Faith casters in Elden Ring. Unleashing a massive bolt of red lightning that strikes the ground and splits into spreading shockwaves, this spell offers unmatched area-of-effect damage against large bosses and groups of enemies. Acquiring this high-tier incantation requires significant progression into the endgame, making it a prized tool for dedicated holy warriors and dragon cultists alike.
Stat Requirements and Spell Attributes
To cast the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear, players must invest heavily into their primary spellcasting stats. The incantation requires 32 Faith to memorize, making it accessible to mid-to-late game Faith builds. It also consumes 25 FP per cast and occupies a single memory slot in your spell lineup.
Unlike standard lightning spells, this incantation deals red dragon lightning damage, which scales effectively with high Faith attributes and specialized sacred seals. Equipping the Gravel Stone Seal in either hand further boosts its damage output by fifteen percent. Players can also charge the spell to increase both its impact radius and total damage.
Where to Find the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook
Unlocking the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear requires retrieving the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook located deep within Crumbling Farum Azula. Players reach this floating legacy dungeon after defeating the Fire Giant and committing an elemental cardinal sin at the Forge of the Giants. Once inside Farum Azula, navigate toward the Tempest-Facing Balcony Site of Grace.
From this grace point, head through the large archway into the main temple structure and descend the stairs to encounter a patrolling Beastman. The Ancient Dragon Prayerbook rests on a corpse in the center of the large circular hall. Collecting this key item grants access to both Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear and Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike.
How to Learn and Use the Incantation
After securing the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook, players must deliver it to a learned holy tutor to purchase the spell. You can give the book to either Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows at the Church of Vows. Once handed over, the Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear becomes available for purchase for 8,500 Runes.
In combat, the spell features a noticeable casting animation where your character leaps into the air before thrusting the spear downward. Due to this extended animation, timing your cast is crucial to prevent being interrupted by aggressive foes. Using poise-enhancing items or the Endure skill can help ensure successful execution during chaotic boss encounters.
Optimizing Damage for End-Game Bosses
Maximizing the potential of Ancient Dragons' Lightning Spear involves combining specific talismans, physics tears, and equipment. The Lightning Scorpion Charm increases all lightning damage by twelve percent, while the Flock's Canvas Talisman further boosts incantation potency. Combining these with the Lightning-Shrouding Cracked Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick yields staggering burst damage against water-logged or massive targets.
